E.S. Posthumus = Movie Music Goodness
Every once in awhile I stumble across an unknown gem be it movies, music or delicious treat. Right about the time th
e first Spiderman movie hit around 2001 or so, I remember catching the movie trailer for it and absolutely loved the music that was in it. I searched high and low and luckily was able to find out that the music was composed by a little known composer duo called E.S. Posthumus. They actually had a CD available, and after previewing a few tracks, immediately purchased. To this day it is an album that I listen too over and over again. It is truly amazing and one of those albums that I always find myself coming back to repeatedly.
Now unless you are a movie soundtrack kind of person, they may not be your cup of tea, but if so, then I highly suggest you check them out. It’s a very unique sound, and the minute you hear it, you’ll recognize many of the tracks from a variety of movie trailers and TV shows. Their stuff gets used all the time. Their first album “Unearthed” is an instant classic. I challenge you to listen to this album and not instantly want to add it to one of your ongoing playlists.
For 6 years I hoped and waited for them to release a new album, and finally they did this year titled “Cartographer”. It’s a unique 2 disc offering, with the first disc being slow, instrumental tracks with a female vocalist singing an actual created language by the composers. Not my favorite of the two discs by any means, but it’s a nice change of pace for a relaxing mood.
Disc 2 is what really does it for me. In fact track #2 titled “Orannu Pi” is my all time favorite one of their pieces. The whole disc is great, much like their first album “Unearthed”. Not as good, but when you wait as long as I have, you’ll take what you can get.
Be sure to check out their official website, or better yet you can purchase their first album “Unearthed” here, or “Cartographer” here as well as listen to sample clips.
